(s1) To use this patch, you will need an ips patching program
and an original rom of Super Mario Bros.

I recommend Lunar IPS (LIPS). It is a very easy to use patching program.

You'll have to find everything yourself. Just use Google.

Included in this patch are levels 1-1 to 3-3. I haven't yet made anything past that.

(s2) Level Design:

I'm aiming for level design that is fun and challenging, but not too hard. Some of the
levels are very easy. Also, many of the early levels aren't much more than a rearrangement of the
obstacles and enemies.

I decided to keep all the levels relatively similar in theme to the originals.
As in, W2-2 is an underwater level and W2-3 is a flying fish level.

(s3) Difficulties:

When you die after reaching the part of the level specified as the checkpoint,
you will restart the level at that checkpoint. Sometimes, this means that you will start
in mid-air. If you jump right away, you may be able to survive.

This happens in W1-3, and W2-3. It can be frustrating, so try not to die.
Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of control over the exact position that it will start you at.

There are also some sections in which you will become stuck if you scroll the screen too far or fall down somewhere.
This occurs in W1-3 and W2-1.

In W1-3, it is at the end of the level just before the staircase to the flagpole. If you are small Mario,
and you fall down below the red koopa troopa, you won't be able to jump back up. If you are big Mario, you
can get back up.

In W2-1, at the end of the level there is a springboard and some blocks in the air. If you scroll the
springboard off the screen and fall off the blocks, you won't be able to get back up.

In the later levels, I tried to avoid these types of problems. Some of them are fixable, but I haven't decided yet
how or if I want to fix them. Do they add to the challenge, of are they just too annoying?

(s5) FAQ:

What program did you use to make these levels in?

I used a program called map.exe made by yy-me-e.

When did you start doing this project?

It was sometime around November of 2006. Unfortunately, I don't know the exact day.
The earliest file I have was last modified on November 10, 2006. However, I don't know if I started before that day or not. I think I started easrlier than that because I know my first version had only 1 level and that version has all the way to W3-1 and the first version of W3-2. This old version of W3-2 was longer and completely different from
current version. It required that you start as big Mario or you would die. You started inside some blocks, causing
Mario to walk to the right until he fell into a pit. If you were big, you could jump and break out from the
floor. I liked this idea, but it kept causing lots of problems.
